My interpretation of the song is that she is loving herself and taking care of herself physically, spiritually, and mentally. She is not walking through life feeling lonely although she is not in a relationship. She is not expecting a man to complete her. She is whole. She wants a man who is whole and who will compliment her when the time comes for that.

I see a lot of people getting upset and quoting the point of view of scripture. While I am a Christian, I gotta tell you guys that you needn't get upset about the song. You have to understand the word play of this song to truly get its meaning. She isn't meaning to say that she's some holy being and that she doesn't need God. The song is about self love and happiness without the need for validation from others. The word play here is "I am holy by my own." Now change the word "holy" to the word "wholly." Wholly, if you don't know, means fully and entirely. "I am wholly by my own." It can be interpreted that she's saying that by her own she is independent and does not need to rely on the validation of other people to make her feel worth love. Place this into context with her lyric "I'm not lonely, I'm alone." She is by herself and she feels complete. This is not her attributing herself to the status of the divine. She is meaning to state that she is strong, comfortable, and happy without the need for validation from other people. "I'm not lonely, I'm alone. And I'm wholly by my own." I don't need validation to feel completed, I feel complete by myself.
